The Barbican, the Hoe and Stonehouse

Plymouth has the Barbican waterfront, Plymouth Hoe, Stonehouse and Devonport, and suburbs such as Plympton and Plymstock to the east. Tavistock, Saltash, Torpoint and Ivybridge are close by.

Devonport was developed around the dockyard that opened in 1690, and the city has a long maritime history.

The University of Plymouth and the naval base

The University of Plymouth and Plymouth Marjon University are both in the city, so student renting is part of the picture. The naval base is a major local employer. Plymouth also has ferry links to Brittany and Spain.

Plymouth station has Great Western Railway trains to London Paddington. Because it is a long journey, it makes sense to plan to stay in London for the week.
